How do you find that 100% job fit? I find that there’s a mismatch wrt at least 1 skillset per job I apply for.

Manager came up to me and said, we're opening a new position that I want you to apply for, I asked her do you need a degree for this promotion? (I don't have a degree) she said no degree is required. so when it opened, I applied, she interviewed me. She then told me, HR said they have to interview others and it won't be an internal position anymore and I will have to interview outside the company as well..., I said ok... then she said she would let me know in 2 weeks.... 6 weeks went by and told me the position was given to my co worker who had been there for a few months. (I had been there 8yrs at the time) The reason they went with him is because he has a bachelors degree... I asked her, but I thought you said no degree was needed... she said, oh yeah, no degree is needed but because he has a bachelors then they gave it to him... first thing that came to mind was... who's they??? But I just thought it was shady. 😒

Constructive criticism should be intended to help the recipient, but it can sometimes be given in ways that aren’t genuinely helpful or considerate of the recipient's situation. In some cases, people provide constructive criticism not to benefit the recipient but to make themselves feel superior, validated, or happy. This can make the criticism feel insincere or self-serving, undermining its effectiveness. Effective criticism should be empathetic, relevant to the recipient’s needs, and aimed at genuinely supporting their improvement.

This is horrible. These companies are asking us to complete projects for them that are for their real current problems they are having. They don’t even use dummy companies. They then take your ideas, implement them, and do not hire you.

How is this for an answer: "Management wanted to use a certain material which I knew was incompatible with my design; I made my concerns known [verbally], but the decision was made nonetheless, and the design performed poorly as a result." Should I further state that I have learned to be more vocal in what I know to be incorrect (communicate it to upper management), or should I leave it open to interviewers' questions?

I've brought this up. I've shown the achievements. I've even shown how much I save them on devops. I've done this. If you haven't gotten a raise in 3 years, they don't care about you. Leave now. Make sure to leave a bad review on Glassdoor so others know. These types of companies are toxic. If these companies struggled during covid, then they focus on only the higher ups making enough and then just forget about everyone else. LEAVE NOW no raise or promotion will EVER happen, you are day laborers.

Most functional resume's I've seen though still have sections for experience though, so I'm confused? You'd list Summary Skills Experience Education in most cases that's the function I've seen, are you saying stray away from that? Cause I feel being able to showcase your skills, a short excerpt on how your skills were utilized in previous roles or accomplishments, and then just a history slab is better than trying to parse through backgrounds of someone who is... y'know... not as impressive history wise. Aka College graduates / those coming into the workforce after a prolonged period of time outside of it.

yes, because companies have either too high of standards (delusion) looking for a 100% fit, or they are gatekeeping and using platforms like HackerRank which use legacy style code and its more desighed to disqualify you, not determine a fit, OR they ask you to code some random algorithm on the spot which you would need to be lucky to study that particular algorithm 24 hours in advance of the interview OR you apply and interview for one job, do a whole take home test that takes 80 hours then they ask you to interview again for a JR role when you applied for a role that said Minumum experience Mid level and your resume clearly said SENIOR everywhere and you gave a SENIOR level salary.

As a hiring manager myself I never asked for professional references. It makes no sense to me because most people don't leave previous employers when things are going well. I get it, people leave bad bosses all the time or good employees get dispossessed by bad managers. Work environments often do become toxic. It's crazy stupid to do a reference check on a potential employee if they presented well in the interview, can pass all required background checks and still possess valid licenses or certificates. Reference checks are simply a way to allow disgruntled or high conflict ex-boss to ruin your reputation and punish you for their own satisfaction. Reference checks should be banned
